This unit replaced five older (slow) chargers. It charges every Makita battery we have (including the new Ni-Mh's that I bought that wouldn't charge in my old chargers), and does it VERY quickly. It identified several bad batteries for me as well. If you have a lot of Makita stick batteries, buy this unit now - apparantly Makita has discontinued it.
It analyzes the state, and charges to full in the fastest time I have ever seen. I bought a new NMH battery with extended hours for my Makita 12V orange battery driven tools that have been workhorses over the years, only to find out that the universal chargers used over the years wont work with the new battery. Extremely pleased. "Thats just great". However I took the plunge and bought this new charger with all its bells and whistles and let me tell you I am glad I did. I also think I am getting better deeper charges from my older orange 12volters probably due to the advanced sensing circuitry in this model. Get one.
This charger is incorrectly listed as an accessory for some Makita 18 volt cordless tools. The specs for this item say it is for charging batteries from 7.2 to 14.4 volts.
